Set up a Trading Partnership to trade Any file over MFT
Any file over MFT partnerships follow the same trade request and onboarding flow as standard EDI partnerships, with a few simplifications: no guidelines, no data version, and no EDI schema required.
Step 1 — Create a trade request
- Sign in to your Orderful account.
- Orderful US: https://ui.orderful.com
- Orderful EU: https://ui-eu.orderful.com
- From the left navigation menu, click Trade Requests.
- Click Create New.
This opens a modal to create a new partnership. - Under Select your Trading Partner, use the search bar to find and select your trading partner.
If they are not found, click Add Partner Request and fill in your partner's basic information. - Under Partnership Options:
- Select your EDI account.
- Choose an EDI file type: Any file, or EDI and Any if the partnership will also include standard EDI transactions.
- Select your migration type
- Select your role — Leader or Follower.
- Under Partnership Contact, enter your partner's email address.
- Submit the trade request.
If you are a Follower, you will be redirected to the onboarding form after submission and will also receive an email from Orderful containing a link to it. If you are a Leader, your invited Follower will receive the onboarding form by email.
Step 2 — Submit the onboarding form
On the onboarding form, enter the required information.
If you received an onboarding form after submitting a trade request as a Follower:
- Under the Transaction types section, add the Any file transaction types you want to trade with your partner. No guidelines to upload.
- Under the Communication Channels section, configure the MFT advanced settings on the communication channel if your partner uses AS2, FTP, or SFTP. See Managed File Transfer (MFT) for details.
Any file transaction types are managed by the Orderful product team. If the transaction type you need is not listed, contact Orderful support.
Step 3 — Configure your relationships
Once the trade request is accepted, one relationship is created automatically for each transaction type selected. Review and configure your relationships:
- From the left navigation menu, click Relationships.
- Click on a relationship with the status Setup.
- Configure the following settings:
- Inbound relationships
- Deliver transactions to communication channel — choose one or more communication channels for transactions you receive in the Live and Test streams. You can configure up to 5 communication channels per stream.
- Acknowledgment policy: Auto-accept or set the acknowledgment status via API
- Outbound relationships
- Deliver acknowledgments — check this if you want to receive acknowledgments on one of your communication channels
- Inbound relationships
Mixed partnerships: If your partnership includes both standard EDI and any file transaction types (e.g. 204, 214, 210 alongside PROOF_OF_DELIVERY), each transaction type has its own relationship. Standard EDI relationships retain full configuration (guidelines, data version); any file relationships are simplified.
