Add the Agent to Your Shared Channel

What you need before you can use your Orderful agent, how it joins your shared Slack channel, and how to check it's ready.

🚧

Beta: invite only

The Shared Slack Agent is a beta feature, available only to customers Orderful has invited. What it can do and how it works may change as we improve it, and it may occasionally be slow or unavailable. To ask about access or share feedback, contact your Orderful representative.

Your Orderful agent lives in the Slack channel your company shares with Orderful through Slack Connect. Orderful sets the agent up for you. This page covers what you need on your side and how to tell it's ready.

Before you start

You need:

  • An invitation to the beta. The agent is available only to customers Orderful has invited. If you'd like to take part, ask your Orderful representative.
  • A shared Slack channel with Orderful. This is a Slack Connect channel that includes people from your company and from Orderful. If you don't have one, ask your Orderful contact to set one up.
  • Your Orderful account. The agent works on your company's Orderful organization. Orderful links the agent to it when setting it up.
  • Your Slack admins' approval, if your workspace requires it. Some companies limit which apps from other organizations can take part in shared channels. If yours does, a Slack admin at your company may need to approve the agent the first time. Your Orderful contact can tell you the app's name to look for.

How the agent joins the channel

  1. Orderful creates an agent for your company, named after it, for example Acme Agent.
  2. Orderful enables the agent for your shared channel and adds it there.
  3. If the channel is hosted in your company's Slack workspace, Slack may ask someone on your side to approve the app or the invitation. Approve it, or ask your Slack admin to.
  4. Slack posts a message in the channel when the agent joins, such as Acme Agent has joined the channel.
📘

The agent only answers in the channels Orderful has enabled for it. If you'd like it in another shared channel, ask your Orderful contact. Adding the app to a channel yourself isn't enough on its own.

Check that the agent is ready

  1. In the shared channel, type @ followed by your company name.
  2. Look for your agent in the list. It's marked with an APP label.
  3. Send a short test, for example @Acme Agent what can you help me with?
  4. Within a few seconds, the agent reacts to your message with 👀. A reply follows in the thread, usually within a couple of minutes.

If you don't see the agent in the list, or nothing happens after a few minutes, see Troubleshooting and FAQ.

Who can use the agent

Anyone in the shared channel can ask the agent questions, whether they work at your company or at Orderful.

For changes, only the person who asked for the change can approve it. If a teammate asked for a trade request, you can't confirm it on their behalf. See Approve Changes.
